What makes an international house move different

A UK house move is largely a logistics problem: crews, vehicles, dates. An international house move is that plus a compliance problem: what paperwork does each jurisdiction need, in which language, before which deadline. Get that wrong and a container can sit at a destination port for weeks accruing storage charges.

Our coordinators specialise in the compliance side — Transfer of Residence relief in the EU, ToR-1 return-leg relief in the UK, B4 for Canada, MPI biosecurity for New Zealand, DAFF/BICON for Australia, CBSA for the USA. The packing and driving is the visible part; the paperwork is what makes the difference between a smooth arrival and a stuck container.

Packing for a container is not the same as packing for a domestic van

A UK domestic move typically uses single-wall cartons, blankets and a same-day unpack. A container journey means 4-12 weeks of ship motion, humidity swings and multiple lift / crane movements. That needs double-wall export cartons, moisture-barrier wrap for leather and unwaxed wood, corner protection on every case-piece and full crate for the fragile / high-value items.

Our crews are trained specifically on export standards and we do not subcontract the packing — the quality of the pack is the single biggest predictor of a clean arrival unpack.

Which mode suits which move

Sole-use container (20ft or 40ft): a full-house move to Australia, USA, Canada, NZ, SA, UAE, Singapore, Hong Kong, Cyprus or Malta. Container ships on your date and delivers to you.

Shared / consolidated container: smaller loads or dates that flex by 2-4 weeks. Significantly cheaper — we combine your load with other UK-origin loads to the same destination country.

Dedicated road van: European destinations (Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Benelux, Nordics, Alpine countries). Door-to-door in days.

Shared road part-load: European destinations, smaller loads, dates flex by 1-3 weeks. Same route, cheaper per cubic metre.

Airfreight: urgent partial consignments (a senior expat starting a role in Singapore, Dubai, Sydney or NYC in 2 weeks). 7-14 days worldwide, roughly 3-4× per m³ of sea.
