Amsterdam's classic canal houses have famously narrow internal staircases — most furniture goes in and out through the front windows using an external furniture hoist (verhuislift). It's not optional for most deliveries above the ground floor.
We arrange the verhuislift as part of the Amsterdam delivery and time it with the building's parking permit (parkeervergunning). Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht apartments are typically more modern with goods lifts.
New Dutch residents need a BSN (Burger Service Number) to register the address and claim Transfer of Residence relief on used personal effects. The BSN takes a couple of weeks to issue post-arrival; we structure the paperwork so the move can clear customs in the meantime.
Tobacco, alcohol and certain plants are restricted — keep them in personal luggage rather than the moving load.

The Netherlands is one of the shortest international moves we run - a dedicated van can be unloading in Rotterdam two days after leaving Oxfordshire. The distance is rarely the problem. The problem is the buildings: 17th-century canal houses with stairwells built for barrels, third-floor Amsterdam apartments with no lift, cycle lanes where a Luton cannot legally stop, and permit-only unloading windows in central Utrecht and The Hague.
That is why we survey for hoist requirements, stairwell width, lift dimensions and parking permits before quoting. A hoist crew booked in advance costs a few hundred pounds. A hoist crew found on the morning of delivery costs a day of standing time and a very bad move.
For smaller volumes, a part load sharing a vehicle already heading to the Randstad is the cheapest sensible option. For time-critical relocations - a start date, a rental handover, a school term - a dedicated van gives you a fixed delivery slot instead of a consolidation window.
