Term and move-out timing: Reading runs three 10-12 week terms; the biggest student move week is the last week of June at end of summer term.

Whiteknights campus has marked loading bays at each hall; Earley and Newtown shared houses are residents-permit zones needing day passes.

Whiteknights is University of Reading's main campus and home to the bulk of first-year halls. Loading bays at each hall (Wessex, Bridges, Mackinder, McCombie, Childs) are reasonable but get busy in the last week of June — we book a delivery slot with hall reception in advance.

St Patrick's and Stenton halls are slightly further out with more relaxed access. We run a regular Reading loop in late June and combine multiple student moves on one trip.

Second and third year students typically move out to shared houses in Earley, Cemetery Junction, Newtown, Whitley and the Wokingham Road corridor. These are Victorian terraces and 1930s semis with narrow internal stairs and residents-permit parking.

We size the van to the shared house (usually a Luton with tail lift, not a 7.5t), and we apply for the visitor parking permit in advance through Wokingham Borough or Reading Borough Council.

Reading halls require students to clear rooms entirely between academic years. Our Crowmarsh Gifford depot is 15 miles from Reading and runs a popular summer storage service — collect at end of June, store fully insured, redeliver before the new academic year.

Storage from £20 per month per single room's worth of contents. International students often book a 4-month round-trip in one go.

Reading has a large international cohort (Henley Business School, the agriculture and meteorology schools all attract international postgrads). We routinely ship student belongings from Reading to Europe, the US, Asia and the Middle East end-of-summer.

Bookings are often handled by parents abroad we work entirely by email, video and WhatsApp.

Book 2-3 weeks in advance for the peak last week of June; mid-week and earlier-in-June dates are usually fine at shorter notice. Send us a couple of photos of the room or shared house and a list of any large items (mini fridge, monitor, bike) so we size the van correctly.

Use ordinary boxes or reuse the boxes you arrived with cardboard from local supermarkets is free and works fine for books, clothes and bedding. We bring blankets for furniture and the larger items.
