Dimond Movers crew loading a removals vehicle for an international move to Greece
Removals to Greece

UK to Greece Removals

Dimond Movers LTD is an experienced international removals company moving UK households and offices to Greece every month. Greece is a longer European move — we route through France, Italy and take the Adriatic ferry (typically Ancona-Patras) into western Greece, then onward by road to Athens, Thessaloniki or via inter-island ferry to Corfu, Crete, Rhodes and the Aegean islands. Second-home owners and returning Greek expats form the bulk of our Greek moves. Full export packing, customs paperwork, transit and final delivery handled in-house and via our trusted destination agents.

Our driver / shipping line handles transit; our destination agent handles port, customs and final delivery, unpacking and debris removal. You get tracking and a single point of contact throughout.

Greece delivery cities we cover regularly

We deliver into the major Greece cities every month: Athens, Thessaloniki, Corfu, Rhodes, Crete (Heraklion), Kos. Rural and inland addresses are handled via our destination agent's shuttle network.

Indicative pricing for a UK to Greece move: £2,200 (shared part-load) up to £7,800+ (dedicated 4-bed to Athens or the islands). Every quote is fixed in writing after a survey no day-of surprises.

Athens, mainland Greece and island deliveries

Athens deliveries are typically apartment moves in Kolonaki, Glyfada, Kifissia or the southern suburbs — parking is tight and building lifts are small. Thessaloniki is easier but still urban apartment territory.

Island deliveries (Corfu, Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Paros, Naxos) add a Greek inter-island ferry leg. We book vehicle-plus-freight on the appropriate scheduled ferry and confirm the destination island's road access — small hillside villages sometimes need a shuttle from the ferry port.

Greek ToR relief and the AFM requirement

Greek Transfer of Residence relief requires a Greek AFM (tax number) and proof of Greek residency. The application is filed with the local Greek customs office through our Athens destination agent. Items must have been owned for at least 6 months and moved within 12 months of taking up Greek residency.

Non-resident second-home owners can still import household goods to a Greek property but VAT and duty are typically payable — we brief on both scenarios during the survey.

Customs and paperwork for a UK to Greece move

EU customs declaration required; Greek Transfer of Residence relief available on used effects.

Paperwork we prepare and submit as part of every Greece move: valued inventory in english and greek; greek afm (tax number) and residence certificate; passport and residence permit copy where applicable; t1 transit document; greek customs transfer of residence application through our athens agent.

Storage before your international move

Many Greece relocations involve a gap between leaving the UK property and the container or van loading. We run secure, insured short and long-term storage at our Crowmarsh Gifford depot useful when you have completed your UK sale but the Greece property isn't ready yet.

Storage is invoiced monthly and can be combined with the export packing and Greece shipment under a single coordinator and single quote.

Mainland or island — the two very different Greek moves

Greece is really two destinations for a removals company. A move to Athens, Thessaloniki or the mainland is a long European road job: our vehicle drives it, the load is not rehandled, and the timing is reasonably predictable. A move to Crete, Corfu, Rhodes or the Cyclades adds a ferry leg, and that leg is governed by sailing frequency, vehicle length and season — which is why island quotes show the ferry as its own line rather than folding it into a vague total.

Access is the other defining factor. Greek old towns, hill villages and island lanes were not designed for a 7.5 tonne vehicle. Stepped approaches in Corfu Town, narrow one-way streets in Chania, unpaved tracks to hillside properties in the Peloponnese and Mani — all are perfectly workable, but they need a smaller shuttle for the last few hundred metres and a crew size set accordingly. We would rather price that at survey than discover it with your furniture on the vehicle.

Timing matters more in Greece than in most European destinations. High summer means booked ferries, heat that makes long carries slower and harder, and August closures that affect local paperwork. Spring and autumn are the easiest windows for both cost and comfort, and if your dates are flexible we will say which weeks are cheaper.

What people actually ship is fairly consistent: personal effects, kitchen contents, artwork, books, a few favourite pieces of furniture and good outdoor items. Household goods and appliances often justify their space because replacement cost in Greece can exceed the cost of moving them. Anything upholstered or wicker should be properly covered — the sea and ferry legs bring humidity, and humidity is what marks soft furnishings, not the miles.

UK to Greece moving checklist

  • Confirm mainland or island destination first — it changes routing, timing and price
  • Book four to six weeks ahead for island deliveries; sailings are the constraint
  • Send photos or a video of the Greek access: lane width, steps, gradient, parking
  • Get your AFM tax number and address proof in place before collection
  • Take good white goods and outdoor furniture — replacing locally often costs more
  • Empty all fuel from mowers, strimmers and barbecues; drain washing machines
  • Declare a realistic replacement value so the insurance matches the load
  • Tell us about pianos, safes, artwork and anything unusually heavy
  • Keep documents, medication and valuables with you rather than on the vehicle
Questions From Real Searches

Answers to the questions people ask

How much do removals from the UK to Greece cost?
As a guide, a 10 m³ part-load to mainland Greece starts around £1,450, a 2-bed household around £2,400 and a sole-use 3-4 bed move around £4,000. Island deliveries add a ferry leg from roughly £320 depending on the island and vehicle. These are planning figures, not quotations: volume, access, packing and declared value all affect the final price, which we fix in writing after a free survey.
How long does a UK to Greece removal take?
Mainland Greece by road is typically around one to two weeks from collection, depending on whether you are on a shared or sole-use load and where in the country you are going — Thessaloniki is reached sooner than the Peloponnese. Island deliveries add the ferry leg and its sailing frequency, so allow extra time for Crete, Rhodes and the smaller Cyclades. We give a written window for your booking.
Do you deliver to the Greek islands as well as the mainland?
Yes — Crete, Corfu, Rhodes, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Paros, Naxos, Santorini and others. The vehicle travels to the port and crosses on the ferry, so the island leg is a separate, visible line in your quote rather than a hidden surcharge. Island roads and old-town access frequently need a smaller shuttle vehicle for the final stretch, which we establish at survey.
Can I send a part load to Greece rather than book a whole vehicle?
Yes, and most people do. Your belongings are packed, inventoried and consolidated with other Greece-bound loads, which is materially cheaper than a dedicated vehicle. The trade-off is a delivery window rather than a fixed date, so it suits flexible arrival plans.
What paperwork do I need for moving to Greece from the UK?
In broad terms: a valued inventory in English, passport copies, proof of your Greek address, and a Greek tax number (AFM) where you are claiming relief on used household goods as part of a transfer of residence. Requirements depend on your status and do change, so we confirm the current document list for your specific move in writing before we collect.
Do you handle house removals to Greece, not just small shipments?
Yes. Full household moves — three, four and five-bedroom homes with export packing, furniture dismantling and reassembly at the far end — are regular work. For a full household we normally recommend a sole-use vehicle so you get a committed delivery day and no rehandling in transit.
Can you move belongings from Greece back to the UK?
Yes. Our Greek corridors run in both directions and return-leg space is usually the most economical way to bring a part-load back. UK transfer-of-residence paperwork is prepared in-house.
Can you store our things before shipping to Greece?
Yes. Insured UK container storage covers the gap between leaving your UK property and having somewhere to receive the load in Greece, and we ship on the next scheduled run rather than charging you for an unused trip.
Do you need to visit the house to quote a Greek move?
Not usually. A video survey is enough for most flats and 2-3 bed houses; we walk the rooms with you, measure the volume and check access at both ends. Larger houses, valuable art, instruments or a tricky island address are worth an in-person survey.
