A straight upright carried across two ground floors is a two-person job from £180. The same upright down a turning Victorian staircase needs three people and lands between £280 and £480. Nothing in that range is a surcharge invented on the day - it is the crew and kit the route demands.
Distance is the second factor, and it behaves differently from a house move. A local move is priced on time and crew; anything over about fifty miles is priced on a dedicated vehicle, because a piano should never travel wedged into a shared load between wardrobes.
