Our Process

The Dimond Movers Moving Process

Step 1

Free Survey & Quote

A coordinator runs a video or in-person survey, agrees the inventory, mode (van / part-load / container) and timeline, and confirms a fixed all-in written quote.

Step 2

Export Packing

Our crews export-pack your belongings to international shipping standards: heavy duty cartons, bubble wrap, blanket wrap for furniture, full inventory list and barcoded labels.

Step 3

Customs Paperwork

We prepare the destination customs declaration, transit documents and Transfer of Residence paperwork where applicable and submit them in advance of the vehicle / container arrival.

Step 4

Transit & Delivery

Our driver / shipping line handles transit; our destination agent handles port, customs and final delivery, unpacking and debris removal. You get tracking and a single point of contact throughout.

Destinations we cover regularly

We run regular international trips to: Spain (Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca, Barcelona, Madrid), Portugal (Algarve, Lisbon, Porto), France (Paris, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nice, Dordogne), Germany (Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg), Italy (Rome, Milan, Florence, Tuscany), Ireland (Dublin, Cork, Galway), Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague), Belgium (Brussels, Antwerp), Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth), USA (New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami) and Dubai (UAE).

Each destination has its own pricing, transit time, customs treatment and quirks. Tap any destination below for a detailed country guide.

European removals — road transport, customs and Transfer of Residence

All European moves use road transport via Eurotunnel or Dover-Calais ferry then onward through France, Spain, Germany or Italy. Since Brexit, every UK to EU move needs a formal customs declaration and a T1 transit document.

New EU residents qualify for Transfer of Residence relief on used personal effects owned for over 6 months no VAT or duty payable. We prepare all paperwork.

Long-haul removals — Australia, USA, Dubai

Australia, the USA and the UAE are container shipments via sea (8-12 weeks Australia, 4-8 weeks USA, 5-8 weeks Dubai). We export-pack and load the container in the UK, seal it with a numbered customs seal and ship from Felixstowe, Southampton or London Gateway.

Customs and quarantine in Australia (DAFF), the USA (CBP) and Dubai (Federal Customs Authority) have very specific requirements we brief you in detail and handle the paperwork end-to-end.

Storage before your international move

Many international moves involve a gap between leaving the UK property and the container or van loading. We run secure, insured short and long-term storage at our Crowmarsh Gifford depot useful when you've completed your UK sale but the destination property isn't ready.

Storage is invoiced monthly and combined with the export packing and shipment under one coordinator and one quote.

Indicative starting prices only. These are not fixed or guaranteed rates for a particular volume. Your final quote is calculated individually and depends on collection and delivery locations, access, actual volume or weight, dates, customs requirements, ferry or toll costs, route availability and how your shipment can be consolidated with other loads. Why international moves go wrong - and how we prevent it

Almost every failed overseas move fails on paperwork, not on driving. A missing residency document, an inventory without declared values, or a Transfer of Residence claim submitted after the vehicle has already left - each of those costs days at the border and, on sea freight, port storage charges you did not budget for. We prepare the inventory, complete the export declaration and check your destination documents before collection day, in-house, with no third-party broker fee added.

The second failure point is access at the destination, sighted only after the vehicle has arrived. Spanish urbanisations and Portuguese hillside villas often need a shuttle from a 7.5t vehicle; Italian historic centres are restricted-traffic zones needing a permit; Dutch canal houses need a hoist; German cities need a Halteverbot booking and a low-emission badge. We survey for these before quoting, so they appear as visible lines in your quote rather than surcharges on the day.

The third is volume. A quote built on a phone conversation is a guess, and a guess that is 20% low means either a second trip or a renegotiation while your belongings are on the pavement. Our free survey - in person or by video - puts a cubic-metre figure and a declared value on paper, and that figure is what the fixed quote is built on.

We are based in Oxfordshire and run our European corridors in both directions, which is why part-load pricing out of London, Bristol, Oxford, Swindon and Reading is competitive rather than padded with return-leg dead mileage.

International moving checklist

  • Book 3-5 weeks ahead - customs paperwork, not the vehicle, sets the lead time
  • Have your passport, destination address proof and tax/residency number to hand
  • Decide part-load (cheaper, flexible dates) or dedicated van (fastest, fixed day)
  • Declare a realistic replacement value so the insurance matches the load
  • Tell us about pianos, artwork, wine, safes, gym equipment and garden machinery
  • Check restricted items - no aerosols, fuels, paints, plants or perishables
  • Send photos or video of access at both ends: driveway, stairs, lift, gate width
  • Confirm who can accept delivery at destination and on which dates
Questions From Real Searches

Answers to the questions people ask

How much does an international move from the UK cost in 2026?
European road moves start around £750 for a part-load, £1,750 for a dedicated van and £2,900 for a full 3-4 bed household. Overseas sea freight starts around £1,900 for a shared container and £4,600 for a sole-use 20ft container. Air freight runs from about £14 per kg. Every job is confirmed as a fixed written quote after a free survey - video survey is fine.
How is the price of an overseas move calculated?
Four things: volume in cubic metres (or weight for air freight), access at both ends, how much packing you want, and the insured replacement value you declare. Distance matters less than people expect - a difficult access at either end changes the price more than a few hundred extra miles.
Part-load or dedicated van - which should I choose?
A part-load shares vehicle space with other customers, so it is materially cheaper but travels on the next scheduled run and gets a delivery window rather than a date. A dedicated van carries only your belongings, leaves your door and arrives on a fixed day. Flexible dates favour part-load; a tight completion favours dedicated.
What customs paperwork do I need after Brexit?
For every destination you need a valued inventory, a passport copy and proof of your address abroad. Duty-free entry of used household goods needs a Transfer of Residence claim, plus a destination tax or residency number (NIE for Spain, NIF for Portugal, codice fiscale for Italy, Anmeldung for Germany). We prepare the inventory and export declaration in-house and check your documents before departure.
Is my furniture insured on an international move?
Yes - goods in transit and marine cover are included, and you declare a replacement value at booking so the cover matches the load. Items we export-pack ourselves carry full cover; owner-packed cartons are covered against loss and external damage.
How long do international moves take?
Europe by road is 2-9 days depending on destination: 2-4 days to the Netherlands and Belgium, 2-5 days to France, 3-6 days to Germany and Poland, 5-9 days to Spain, Portugal and Italy. Sea freight is typically 5-10 weeks port to door, air freight 2-6 working days plus clearance.
Can you store belongings before or after an overseas move?
Yes. Insured UK container storage bridges the gap when your overseas completion or rental start slips, and we redeliver into the next scheduled run rather than charging for a wasted trip. Destination-side storage is available through our agents.
What can't be shipped?
No aerosols, fuels, paints, solvents, gas bottles, fireworks, plants, seeds, perishable food, alcohol above declared limits or firearms. Wine and spirits collections can often be moved but need a separate declaration - tell us at survey.
Do you move in the other direction, back into the UK?
Yes. Europe-to-UK moves run on the same vehicles, and UK Transfer of Residence (ToR1) applications are handled in-house. Return-leg capacity is usually the cheapest way to bring a part-load home.
