London to France — the route we run every month

London to France is a regular route on our European schedule. Collection from any N, NW, W, WC, EC, SW, SE, E postcode; transit 3-7 days door-to-door via Eurotunnel or Dover-Calais; delivery into Paris, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nice / French Riviera and beyond.

France is our closest and most flexible European destination — short trips to Calais, Lille and Paris can be done in 48 hours, while moves to the Dordogne, Provence, the Côte d'Azur or Brittany typically take 4-7 days. Almost every UK move to France crosses via Eurotunnel or Dover-Calais.

Paris, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nice, Dordogne — the most common French moves

Paris and the Île-de-France are dense apartment moves — parking permits (autorisation de stationnement) and a shuttle van are normal. Bordeaux and Toulouse are typical city-edge moves with reasonable access. The Dordogne and Lot are rural villa / farmhouse moves where we'll survey the lane width carefully before quoting.

Nice, Cannes, Antibes and the wider Côte d'Azur are popular for UK movers — narrow streets, height restrictions and resident parking are normal so we plan vehicle size around the destination, not the origin.

Customs into France — what changed and what didn't

Post-Brexit, UK personal effects moving to France need a formal customs declaration at the French border. New French residents can claim Transfer of Residence relief and import used household goods VAT and duty free, provided items have been owned for over 6 months and the move happens within 12 months of residency.

You'll need a Certificat de Changement de Résidence from your local mairie or a French consulate — we'll brief you on exactly when to apply.

Customs and paperwork for a London to France move

Customs declarations required since Brexit; Transfer of Residence relief available for new French residents.

Paperwork we prepare and submit as part of every London to France move: valued inventory in english and french; passport copy; justificatif de domicile (proof of french address) for tor; t1 transit document; certificat de changement de résidence from your local mairie or french consulate (for tor).

Fixed pricing from London

Indicative pricing for a London to France move: £900 (small part-load to northern France) up to £5,500+ (dedicated 4-bed home to the South). Every quote is fixed in writing after a survey — no day-of surprises.

Suspended-bay permits are usually required in Zones 1-3 and we lodge those 10 working days ahead of every move. We factor collection access into the fixed price so the loading day runs on schedule.

How the London to France move actually runs

We route this corridor via Eurotunnel from Folkestone or the Dover-Calais ferry, then A16/A26 or A28 depending on your destination. Transit is 2-5 days to northern and central France, 4-7 days to the south and the Alps, and the difference between the fast end and the slow end of that range is almost always part-load consolidation rather than the drive itself - a dedicated van leaves your door and does not stop for anyone else's load.

Paperwork is where overseas moves go wrong, so we do it in-house. A valued inventory in French or English, passport copy, proof of your French address (attestation, bail or acte de vente) and a Transfer of Residence declaration for duty-free entry of used household effects. Everything is checked before the vehicle leaves the UK, because a missing residency document costs days at the border, not hours.

Rural Dordogne, Charente and Brittany properties often have long unmade drives and stone thresholds; we plan the last-mile vehicle and any shuttle at survey.

Paris deliveries need the same discipline as London: narrow courtyards, small lifts and timed loading windows, all confirmed with the syndic before we travel.

France move checklist

  • Book 3-5 weeks ahead - customs paperwork, not the vehicle, sets the lead time
  • Have your passport, destination address proof and tax/residency number to hand
  • Decide part-load (cheaper, flexible dates) or dedicated van (fastest, fixed day)
  • Declare a realistic replacement value so the insurance matches the load
  • Tell us about pianos, artwork, wine, safes, gym equipment and garden machinery
  • Check restricted items - no aerosols, fuels, paints, plants or perishables
  • Send photos or video of access at both ends: driveway, stairs, lift, gate width
  • Confirm who can accept delivery at destination and on which dates
Questions From Real Searches

Answers to the questions people ask

How much do removals from London to France cost in 2026?
A part-load (a few rooms of furniture and boxes) typically starts from £850, a dedicated van for a 2-bed home from £1,950, and a full 3-4 bed household from £3,200. Price depends on volume in cubic metres, access at both ends, packing and insured value. You receive a fixed written quote after a free survey - video survey is fine.
How long does the move from London to France take?
Typical transit is 2-5 days to northern and central France, 4-7 days to the south and the Alps. A dedicated van is fastest because it goes straight from your door to the delivery address. A part-load costs less because we consolidate loads, so it waits for the next scheduled run - we give you a delivery window in writing before you commit.
Which paperwork do I need for France?
A valued inventory in French or English, passport copy, proof of your French address (attestation, bail or acte de vente) and a Transfer of Residence declaration for duty-free entry of used household effects. We prepare the inventory, complete the export declaration and check your documents before the vehicle leaves the UK, so nothing stalls at the border.
Which parts of France do you deliver to?
We deliver to Paris and Ile-de-France, Normandy, Brittany, the Loire, Dordogne, Charente, Occitanie, Provence, the Cote d'Azur and the French Alps. If your address is outside those areas we still quote it - it usually means an onward leg with a trusted destination agent, shown as a separate line in the quote.
Is my furniture insured in transit to France?
Yes. Goods in transit and marine cover are included, and you declare a replacement value at booking so the cover matches what is actually in the load. Items we pack ourselves carry full cover; owner-packed boxes are covered against loss and external damage.
Do you pack for international moves?
Yes, and for overseas moves we strongly recommend it. Export packing means double-wall cartons, edge protection on case goods, purpose-made mattress and sofa covers and a numbered inventory - the same inventory customs reads. Fragile-only packing is available if you want to box the rest yourself.
Can you store our belongings before or after the move?
Yes. Insured container storage in the UK covers the gap when your France completion or rental start date slips, and we redeliver into the next scheduled run rather than charging you for a wasted trip.
Do you move in the other direction too?
Yes - we run France to UK moves on the same vehicles, which is why our pricing on this corridor is competitive in both directions. Return-leg capacity is often the cheapest way to move a part-load.
